Anesthesia Associates of New Mexico has been providing anesthesia and pain management services in New Mexico since 1970.
Ted Spitz was the first trained anesthesiologist in New Mexico, arriving in 1948. In 1970 he joined with Mickey Berman, Mort Dunklin, Ernie Garcia, Jake Mainzer, Louis Schmidt, and Jim Street to form the physician group that has become Anesthesia Associates of New Mexico. 140 physicians have worked with us to date. Clara Williams and Laura Covey were nurse anesthetists present at the foundation of the group and 68 have worked with us.
We are now 44 physicians and 16 CRNAs assisted by 3 RNs and 2 CNPs. Our anesthesiologists bring fellowship training in Cardiac Anesthesia, Pediatric Anesthesia, OB Anesthesia and Chronic Pain Management to enable all types of anesthesia services excepting liver and cardiac transplantation. Our professional office staff supports all administrative functions.
We credit our longevity to a stable hospital relationship and our emphasis on fairness. We equitably share governance, scheduling of call and vacation, case assignment, and our responsibilities to our corporation, community and the medical staff. We continue to address and resolve divisive issues to reinforce our unity.
Professional, personal and clinical varieties are the hallmarks of our practice. Our professional staff encompasses a broad spectrum of training programs, ethnicities, lifestyles, countries of origin, and personal and professional interests. We share in common compassion for our patients, fascination with medicine, and courtesy, optimism and humor in our relationships. Our office staff support permits the physicians and other professionals to concentrate on areas of clinical and corporate interest without great concern about every detail of a complex corporate practice.
Albuquerque's 5000 foot elevation makes for a true four season climate with sunshine over 320 days per year permitting perennial outdoor recreation. A priority in our practice is flexibility to take advantage of the environment for our professionals and their families.
